Balesore Cyber police on Thursday arrested a Nigeria youth from Delhi on charge of duping Rs 30 lakh from a Balia-based resident through honeytrap.

Sources said, police arrested the accused for luring the resident into a honey trap and extorting money from him. Police recovered two mobile phones, one laptop with VISA, passport from the accused identified as Samson Imoko Alika, a Nigeria resident.

Addressing media, inspector-in-charge Mina Bindhani said, “In January 13, 2022 a complaint has been filed regarding a honeytrap and fraud transaction. According to the complaint, the victim came in contact with a lady of United Kingdom through Face Book and then they exchanged texts in Whatsapp.”

She further said, “Then the lady had sent huge amount of gift including gold biscuits, a Rolex watch and an Iphone. When the gifts reached Delhi airport, a person identified himself as custom officer asked the victim to give him custom charge to receive the gifts. The victim kept on giving lakh after lakh to receive the gifts but did not get the gifts. Then he realised that he was trapped and duped. We have arrested a person from Delhi but he is a resident of Nigeria. And police are investigating into the case to nab more people involved in the case because it’s not a one man’s task.”

Police however did not reveal the identity of the victim.
