Accused Brothers
Two brothers have been taken into custody by Manglabag police in Cuttack on charges of defrauding over Rs 11 lakh from 30 individuals by promising non-existent government nursing jobs.
The accused brothers have been identified as Archit Das and Arpit Das of Thoria Sahi area in Cuttack city.
As per sources, the accused brother duo was operating an unauthorised office located in the Madhupatna area. They would reportedly entice job aspirants through newspaper advertisements. They allegedly duped 30 job aspirants of over Rs 11 lakh, promising nursing jobs at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
It was when the victims visited the said hospital with the appointment letters they had received from the two brothers that they realised that they had been defrauded as the medical authorities told them that they hadn’t issued any appointment letters. Subsequently, they lodged a complaint at Mangalabag police station.
Acting on the complaints, the police launched a probe and arrested the two brothers. The cops also seized a car, a motorcycle, ATM cards and counterfeit offer and appointment letters from their possession. Later, they were produced in court.
Meanwhile, the police appealed those who had been cheated by the fraudsters to come forward and lodge complaints.
"We have launched a detailed probe to find out if some others are involved in the racket," said Girija Shankar Chakraborty, ACP, Zone II, Cuttack.
To bust the entire racket, the police are also planning to bring the accused brothers on remand.
