‘Arrested Odia lady asst engineer Nibedita Mohanty was demanding mutton, Hilsa fish apart from bribe’

Shocking revelations have come to the fore a day after Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Nibedita Mohanty, Assistant Engineer of Jatni block in Khordha district while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000. Multiple contractors on Wednesday alleged that the concerned Assistant Engineer was asking bribe to pass their bills.

Apart from this, the lady assistant engineer was allegedly demanding mutton, Hilsa fish, Paradip's prawn and other items on a regular basis from contractors.

“Whenever I used to meet the BDO regarding any work or programme, the officer used to ask us to meet the Assistant Engineer Nibedita Mohanty. I had accompanied several agencies, and the assistant engineer used to demand vegetables and other non-veg items including fish, mutton and others,” alleged a contractor.

On Tuesday, the lady Assistant Engineer was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 at her residence in Khandagiri from a contractor for clearing his pending bill.

“When the contractor lodged a complaint, we laid a trap and nabbed the lady assistant engineer. Further investigation is underway,” said Vigilance SP. Today also the Vigilance sleuths carried out further raids at several places linked to the assistant engineer.
