Unidentified miscreants reportedly looted gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1.60 lakh cash from the house of one Kartik Swain at Kakatpur village under Mahakalpada police limits in Kendrapara district late last night.

Around six armed-miscreants reportedly barged into Swain’s residence and looted cash and other valuables after attacking his family members. Four persons have sustained multiple injuries in the dacoity.

“We were sleeping when the miscreants entered our house by breaking the door between 12 to 1 am. They caught hold of me and demanded keys of the cupboard. Later, they tied me and gaged my mouth. They have stolen gold ornaments and cash,” said Kartik Swain.

As per initial reports, the miscreants also fired a shot in the air to terrorize Swain’s family members when they initially refused to hand over the keys of the cupboard.

“The miscreants tied some of our members and locked others in one room. They dragged me to a room and asked me to hand over the keys and attacked us with sharp weapons after we tried to resist,” said one of the members of the family.

On hearing the gunshot, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to nab two robbers while the four others decamped with the looted valuables and cash. One pistol and two motorcycles have been seized from the spot.

Later, the villagers handed over the two miscreants to police. Based on the complaint, police have started an investigation into the incident.
