Police ASI, Gopalkrushna Das has confessed to having killed Odisha Health Minister Naba Das on Sunday, informed Crime Branch ADG, Arun Bothra on Monday.

While replying to the reporters in Jharsuguda, Bothra said, “The Crime Branch is investigating the case. The accused has been arrested. We will seek his remand. We will request the court for the same. His interrogation will shed light on how the incident took place.”

“It is a clear-cut case. He has admitted to having committed the crime. We will try our level best to investigate the case properly and scientifically,” he added.

“We will collect maximum evidence and take statements of all the eyewitnesses present at the spot. Our entire effort will be to ensure punishment to the man who has committed the crime,” he further added.

Meanwhile, amid tight security, the Crime Branch on Monday produced Das before the JMFC’s residential court. While the CB sought a seven-day remand for Das, the court reserved the hearing. After the production, he was taken to Jharsuguda sub-jail.

On the other hand, Odisha government on Monday wrote to Orissa High Court requesting for a sitting/retired HC judge or district judge to monitor the Crime Branch probe into the murder case of late Health Minister Naba Das.

Notably, accused ASI Gopalkrushna Das of Gandhi Chowk outpost under Brajarajnagar police station was dismissed from his service on Monday.

Gopalkrushna is the prime accused in the murder of Health Minister Naba Das at Gandhi Chowk in Brajarajnagar on Sunday leading to the latter’s death at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
