In a development that seems to point fingers at the efficacy of the police department, identity of a woman reportedly murdered in the outskirts of the city still remains a mystery, despite nine years into the case.

The Chandaka Police under the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District on Tuesday issued posters seeking information on the identity of a woman found dead under mysterious circumstances near Gothapatana in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on May 27, 2012. 

It is suspected the woman could have been somewhere between 25 to 30 years of age when she died. She had sustained injuries on her head and from the crime scene, it seemed that she was murdered, the police has stated in the poster. 

During investigation of the spot where the woman was found dead, police had recovered a polythene written with Electric Office Chhak, Kamakhyanagar from her posession.

Based on the PM report, a case was registered on January 19, 2015 on charges of murder. From detail circumstances and probe so far, police suspect that the woman could have been a resident of Kamakhyanagar or its adjoining areas. 

The Commissionerate Police has requested people with any information on the woman or someone having any inklings to contact Chandaka Police Station IIC on 8280338323/9438849959 or ACP – 8280338296.

It has also been learnt that the police will paste posters of the woman at Kamakhyanagar, Jajpur Road, Angul, Parjang areas to ascertain her identity and other details.
