The State GST (Goods and Services Tax) enforcement wing on Wednesday arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in GST input tax credit (ITC) fraud to the tune of Rs 311 crore. 

While addressing a press conference, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes and GST, Sushil Kumar Lohani informed this. 

The five arrested persons have been identified as Dhanwan Sa, Ram Bharose Sa, Manoj Pandey, Niku Singh and Subash Kandulana. Of them, while four belong to Rourkela, one hails from Sudargarh. 

On the basis of bogus bills of Rs 1727 crore, they cheated through availing and passing on bogus ITC of Rs 311 crore, informed Lohani. 

They had been cheating through 23 fake firms and three companies by setting up fake firms, using the certificates of several people, Lohani added. 

The GST Commissioner also added that so far 28  persons have been arrested for GST fraud.
