Arrested fraudsters
Four cyber fraudsters have been arrested for duping people of Rs 14 lakhs by sending malicious links to mobile phones, said the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Saturday.
The arrested scammers have been identified as Anil Hembram of Balasore, who is the mastermind of the group, Deepak Patel and Kamlesh Patel of Sambalpur and Rajesh Behera of Rourkela.
While addressing a press conference, additional DCP Prakash Chandra Pal said, “In this connection, we had previously arrested four persons. The total number of arrests has now gone up to eight. There are some other accused as well. We will arrest them soon.”
Prime accused Anil Hembram’s modus operandi was to involve youths through a networking scheme and with the help of them, he was running his racket. They were looting people by sending links to their mobile phones, informed police.
The cyber police seized 18 mobile phones, 36 SIM cards, one virtual SIM, 12 cheques and 13 Debit Cards from the arrested persons. The police also froze Rs 6,32,800 in the accounts of the fraudsters.
