Police on Wednesday arrested a youth on charges of shooting at a minor girl after cheating her following a relationship under Bisoi Police limits area in Mayurbhnaj district. The police also arrested the firearm supplier and a woman for their alleged involvement in the case. 

The police recovered a pistol, three live bullets and four mobile phones from their possession. The injured girl is recuperating at PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada. 

The arrested persons have been identified as key accused Arjun Panda (29), who is son of Suraj Panda of Anladuba village under Rairangpur rural police limits, Sk Nakim Khan, a resident of Haladipokhari area under Kabali police limits who supplied the firearm and the woman is a resident of Bisoi area. 

According to the police, Arjun and the girl were in a relationship. However, the former married another girl. Upon this, the minor girl started avoiding him. 
Planning to teach her a lesson, Arjun kidnapped her from Bisoi and took her to Rairangpur in a van. They had a verbal duel in the van upon which the accused opened fire. The girl sustained a bullet injury on her thigh. 

Fearing action, Arjun took a house on rent and kept her at the house. 

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the girl’s family members, the police registered a case, launched a probe and arrested the trio. 

“On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s family members, we launched an investigation and arrested him (Arjun). We have recovered a pistol and three live bullets from his possession. We have also arrested the person who supplied the firearm and ammunition to Arun and the woman who rented out her house to them,” informed Rairangpur SDPO, Gokulananda Sahu. 

Narrating the incident, the girl’s uncle Anant Soren said, “He (Arjun) had kept her at a rented house and was treating her. Four days after the incident, she somehow managed to contact us.”
