The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday launched a raid and sealed three illegal bakery factories operating in Sikharpur area of the city.

As per reports, the bakery units were operating without valid licenses. During the raid, the factories also failed to produce necessary documents.
Moreover, the quality of bread, cake and other bakery items were found to be substandard, informed CMC authorities.

As alleged by the locals, the company supplied its bakery items into the retail market without printing the manufacturing and expiry dates. Acting on the complaints of the locals, the civic body conducted a surprise raid on the bakery units.

"We had received complaints about the three bakery units operating in Sikharpur. Reliable sources informed us that these units were operating without a valid license and were supplying their products without any brand on it. Acting on the tip-off, we raided the units. During the raid, they failed to produce their license. Even they didn't have a trade license, food safety license and the products didn't have a brand label," informed Satyabrata Mohapatra, Health Officer, CMC.

"The factories supplied their bakery products in rural areas as well as the small tea shops in the city. This is an offence. We have collected samples of the products and have sealed the three bakery factories," added Mohapatra.
