Two men were murdered in two separate incidents reported from Bhubaneswar and Kendrapara within 24 hours.

Police recovered a blood-soaked body of a person from Ashok Nagar in Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Kumar Rout, a resident of Chhachina village under Mangalpur police limits in Jajpur district who worked as a security guard in the Capital city.

Like any other day, Rout was posted in Ashok Nagar area on Saturday night. After the end of his duty hours, his other friends asked him to go with them to have dinner which he turned down, saying no one would be the gate. Later, they found his motionless body lying few steps away from his duty spot.

“After finishing our dinner, I came to him so that he can go for dinner. But I didn’t find him there where he was doing duty. After a frantic search, his body was found lying in a pool of blood. I immediately alerted my other friends,” said deceased’s friend Jayadev Swain.

Without losing any moment, they rushed him to Capital Hospital where the doctors declared him received dead.
The police have launched a detailed probe into the incident.

In the second incident, a man was hacked to death over a land dispute at Desahi village under Aul police limits in Kendrapara district. The deceased has been identified as Bipin Mallik. Two others sustained injuries in the attack.

Accusing the husband of Desahi Panchayat’s Sarpanch and a Samiti member of being involved in the incident, the deceased’s family members lodged a complaint at Aul police station. Namita Mallik, a relative of the deceased, demanded justice.

When asked, Dr Debasmita Sharma of Aul Community Health Centre (CHC) said the deceased had been received dead and the cause of death could be ascertained only after post mortem.
