One of the victimised tourists
What should have been a pleasant experience turned nightmarish for two tourists from Mumbai when two miscreants robbed Rs 30,000 from them at knifepoint in Angul town.
The matter came to the fore after the victims narrated the shock of their lifetime in a social media post.
As per allegations, two tourists from Mumbai identified as Arbaz Kayum Khan and Saroj Verma arrived at Angul railway station. There, they developed friendships with two local youths. The latter arranged a hotel room for the former. Of them, Saroj went to the room and Arbaz went with the local youths to bring food. They took him to a deserted place, beat him up and robbed Rs 5000 cash and Rs 25,000 from PhonePe from him at knifepoint.

“We are new here. Since they arranged a hotel room for us, we started to believe them. After I sent my friend to the hotel room, they asked me to go with them to have food. Without any hesitation, I went with them. They took me to a deserted place and asked me to hand over what I had. They took a total of Rs 30,000 from me at knifepoint,” said a tourist in a social media video post.
However, while no police complaint has been lodged in this regard, both the tourists are learned to have left Angul.
