Brahmagiri Police in Puri district has arrested two government employees on charges of defrauding people on the pretext of providing them jobs at Sri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in the pilgrim city.

The accused have been identified as Kartika Sethi from Palli village under Brahmagiri police limits and Batakrushna Bhoi from Nalihana under Puri Sadar Police limits.

While Sethi reportedly works in the postal department, Bhoi is a peon at the Chief District Medical Officer’s (CDMO) office.

As per reports, the duo who has criminal antecedents allegedly duped three persons in Budhang village under Brahmagiri police limits of around Rs 4 lakh from by promising them data entry operator jobs at the hospital.

Both Sethi and Bhoi are facing seven to eight cheating complaints filed against them at Brahmagiri police station.

Speaking about the incident, the IIC of Brahmagiri, Dillip Kumar Dhal said, “A complaint was received against Sethi and Bhoi for cheating people on the pretext of offering jobs. There are other complaints against them too. All the complaints are being probed.”

They have been charged under IPC Sections 420, 468, 471, 34, 120 (B). The duo has been forwarded to court on Saturday following arrest.
