The Bolangir Police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the death of a youth, whose half-burnt body was found behind the PG Hostel at Rajendra University earlier on Tuesday, with the arrest of the two killers.

A team of Bolangir Sadar Police rounded up Amit Manhira and Subham Singh on charges of murdering Biswadev Sahu. According to Police officials, triangular love was the main cause behind the youth’s murder.

“Amit Manhira and Biswadev Sahu had developed feelings for a girl and were at loggerheads over it. However, their friend Subham Singh had turned a mediator between them and was trying to solve the disputes,” Bolangir Sadar SDPO Tofan Bag said.

“Subham was harbouring a grudge over the issue as his own sister had eloped with someone three months ago,” he added.

To solve their fight, Subham had called Amit and Biswadev to the backside of PG Hostel at Rajendra University in Balangir. However, Biswadev got into a war of words with Amit and Subham afterwards.

Amit and Subham lost cool following heated exchange of words and attacked Biswadev with a sharp object. Basudev died at the spot. In order to dispose off the body so as not to leave any clue about the murder, the duo then tried to burning it.

They were picked up for questioning on the basis of suspicion. They broke down during the questioning and admitted to the crime. They were later produced in a court for remand.

The police are further investigating to ascertain if it was a pre-planned murder or it was executed in the heat of the moment.
