The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Saturday unravelled the mystery behind ragpicker Nanda murder case with the arrest of two lovebirds from Manguli in Cuttack.

Attributing the gruesome murder to a triangular love affair, police said, “Accused woman Pana Singh and Kaila Chandra Sahu were in love.

Deceased Nanda also had feelings for Pana. All of them were ragpickers. On the fateful day of December 25, the accused and the victim were consuming ‘handia’ together when Kaila and Pana intentionally picked up a fight with Nanda. In a fit of rage the duo killed Nanda before fleeing the scene.”

It is pertinent to note that police had recovered the body of Nanda from a deserted house at Nandankanan under Barang police limits six days back and started an investigation after the post mortem report confirmed that it was a murder.

“Full identity of the deceased is yet to be established. The deceased and two accused were ragpickers. The accused had a fight with Nanda in the morning. Both the accused plotted a conspiracy and killed Nanda in the evening. Pana is a widow and mother of a 15-year-old son who resides in Paradip,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Chandra Bisoi.
