Despite awareness, a lot of people are still falling into traps laid by job scamsters. In one such incident, Pahala police arrested a person on the charges of duping job aspirants to the tune of Rs 17 lakh on the pretext of offering ASO job. The accused has been identified as Ranjan Kumar Nayak of Balikuda area in Cuttack.

Senior police officials said that Nayak had committed the crime by posing himself as Crime Branch, IB and other senior police officials. Nayak was nabbed based on the complaint filed by one Akshay Mahanta of Rourkela.

The complainant alleged that the accused along with some of his associates had duped him of Rs 8 lakh on the pretext of providing him an ASO job in High Court. The complainant had lodged the complaint after finding his name missing in the final merit list of the recruitment examination

. Apart from Mahanta, the accused had duped another person to the tune of Rs 7 lakh as well.

“During raid on his house, we have recovered several police and doctor uniforms. The accused had duped several job aspirants in Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar by identifying himself as a police officer or a doctor,” said SN Muduli, ACP Zone-4

According to Muduli, the accused had set up opera (jatra) party from the money duped from the job aspirants. Further investigation in this connection is underway, he added.

“After realising that I have been duped, I had lodged a police complaint. The accused had threatened to kill me when I insisted on getting my money back,” said the complainant.
