Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Monday seized Ganja (dry cannabis) weighing over 700 kgs in two separate cases and arrested three notorious drug peddlers.

Twin City Police Commissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi informed that a team of Jagatpur Police Station got input regarding the transportation of Ganja. Subsequently, the team intercepted a four-wheeler near the Indian Oil petrol pump at Jagatpur.

“The team was successful in nabbing two veteran Ganja dealers- Panchanan Bisoi and Amit Mahakud and recovered 360 kgs of Ganja and cash over Rs 1 lakh,” said Priyadarshi.

During the seizure, the team got another information and intercepted a car that was on its way toward Dhenkanal and arrested two more dealers-Ganeswar Das and Damo Kanhar. Around 351 kgs of Ganja and Rs 48,000 cash were recovered from their possession.

“The seizure of over 700 kgs of Ganja is one the highest seizures made so far. In the preliminary investigation, it has been observed that Cuttack is being used as a transit route for the smuggling of narcotics. We always try to take action whenever we get information regarding such illegal transportation and trade,” Priyadarshi added.
