Panic gripped Bhimpura village in Balasore after four members of a family including two children sustained critical injuries in an alleged acid attack on Monday.

As per reports, the accused Chandan Rana allegedly threw acid on Gita (name changed), her sister Monica (name changed) and her two children.

Sources said Chandan had married Gita one and a half months back. However, she snapped ties with Chandan after learning that he was already married and even had children from his first wife.

Initial reports suggest that there was some quarrel between Chandan and Gita after the former insisted on taking her with him. Later, Chandan threw acid on Gita, her sister, and other children in the house. Following the incident, Chandan escaped from the spot.

“Chandan had married another woman and even had kids. When we got information about this, we snapped ties with him,” said Jogesh, a relative of the victims.

On getting information, other family members rushed to the spot and shifted all four injured to the hospital. The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical. Meanwhile, Sahadevkhunta Police has registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
