After a downward trend for the last few days, the daily Covid-19 tally witnessed a significant rise in Odisha with 1,174 persons testing positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.   

The State also reported one more death with a 63-year-old man succumbing to the virus in Bhubaneswar. With this, the death toll rose to 9,136.  

Out of the total new cases, 155 are in the age group of 0-18 years, as per the data shared by the State Information and Public Relations department.

Khordha district reported the highest number of fresh infections at 316, followed by 261 in Sundargarh

The State now has 7,011 active cases, while 12,92,885 people have recovered from the infection so far.

As many as 89 positive cases have been reported from Sambalpur followed by 87 cases in Mayurbhanj.

The daily COVID-19 infections are hovering around 1000-1200 in Odisha. The corona graph is in plateau state for the last few days. We have to wait for some more days to see if cases drop," said Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra.

On the other hand, 18,313 fresh cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 4,39,38,764, while the count of active cases of the infection has declined to 1,45,026.

The death toll due to the viral disease has gone up to 5,26,110 with 57 more fatalities, according to the ministry's data updated at 8 am.

The active cases account for 0.34 per cent of the total caseload, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.47 per cent, the ministry said.

A decline of 2,486 cases was recorded in the active Covid caseload in a span of 24 hours, it added. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.31 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.57 per cent.
