Covid-19 cases continued to show an upward trend in Odisha with the daily case count reaching triple-digit in the State on Tuesday.

The State logged 113 new cases in the past 24 hours of which 15 are in the age group of 0-18 years. While 67 cases have been detected from quarantine, 46 were local contacts.

Khordha district reported highest 65 new cases followed by Cuttack (21), Sundargarh (6), Sambalpur (4), Jajpur (2) and Puri (1). The State Pool registered 14 cases.

With the fresh addition, the number of active cases in the State has jumped to 517. As many as 52 new recoveries have been detected in the last 24 hours.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, the State has recorded 12,89,441 confirmed cases. While 12,79,745 patients have recovered, 9,126 succumbed to the virus.

Speaking on the Covid situation, State Public health director Niranjan Mishra said, "The infections are rising but the situation is not alarming. COVID19 transmission is comparatively high in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack." 

"About 10 lakh people will be provided with masks during Rath Yatra in Puri. Besides, the State will speed up vaccination drive and antigen testing in Puri," he added. 

State Health Director Bijay Mohapatra said, "Steps are being taken to put a check on the transmission. People are advised to wear masks, and if possible, avoid going to crowded places. The government is keeping a close watch on the COVID19 trend."
