With Covid-19 cases gradually having a surge in 0-18 years age group, as many as 128 children tested positive for Covid-19 in Odisha in the last 24 hours. 

The State on Friday detected 986 more cases of Covid-19 and 69 fatalities due to the virus which took the positive tally to 9,99,173 and death toll to 7,223.

As per the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, 128 out of 986 positive cases detected in the last 24 hours are in the 0-18 age group.

Since Sunday (August 15), out of 5,666 people who have tested positive for Coronavirus, a total of 732 infected cases are in the 0-18 age group which accounted for 12.91 percent.

Of the fresh cases reported today, 574 are from quarantine centres, while the rest 412 are local contact cases. Khordha district reported the highest 373 cases in the last 24 hours while Cuttack remained second in the list with 139 infections, as per State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

In terms of deaths, Jagatsinghpur reported the maximum 12 fatalities followed by Cuttack (11) and Dhenkanal (8). While Bhadrak and Jajpur registered six cases each, Angul, Kendrapara and Khorda reported five cases each. Meanwhile, Puri witnessed four cases, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar reported three cases each and Nayagarh witnessed one case.
Odisha currently has 9,578 active cases while 9,82,319 patients have recovered so far, including 1,003 on Thursday.

The State has so far tested over 1,72,74,529 samples for Covid-19, including 66,281 in the last 24 hours. Odisha's positivity rate stands at 1.40 per cent.
