Bhubaneswar: In a bid to inoculate a majority of population prior to the onset of a possible third wave of Covid pandemic, Odisha government is all set to commence the mass Covid vaccination drive on a campaign mode under the National Covid Vaccination Programme from today.

The State has set a target to inoculate 3 lakh beneficiaries above 18 years of age on a daily basis. It has been decided that the programme would be carried out with 50 per cent online slot booking and 50 % on-site registration

The State Health Department directed the Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to give priority to the beneficiaries entitled to receive the booster dose.

The State has availability of 10 lakh Covishield and 5 lakh Covaxin doses.

The Centre had earlier announced to provide vaccines to the States by procuring the same from vaccine manufacturers to take forward the mass vaccination programme across the country.

The State has planned 5 sessions in each block, Notified Area Councils, 10 sessions in each Municipality and at least 20 in each Municipal Corporations to conduct the vaccination programme.

Additional sessions can be set up if required by the district administration.  

The district authorities can plan for both online and on-site sessions based on feasibility.
