The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a show-cause notice to a diagnostic centre in the city over alleged issuance of fake COVID positive certificate.

The BMC took note of a newspaper article published on Wednesday about deliverance of fake COVID positive certificate to a person by GenX Diagnostics located in Sahid Nagar area in the city.

The civic body said a conversation between the two persons-- one claiming to be an arranger for such COVID positive certificate and the other person from the media--is going viral.

“It appears that one random person has submitted his/her Aadhaar Card in WhatsApp and managed to obtain a COVID positive certificate mentioning Sample ID: 340855001 and SRF ID: 2136202274555 without going through the procedure of obtaining genuine sample and putting it to appropriate test,” the civic body mentioned in the notice.

The notice stated that the test report is also published in the media and which was verified to be genuine report issued from your laboratory with fake reading thereon, the BMC said in the show cause order slapped against the diagnostic centre.

“It is therefore confirmed that your lab has issued fake COVID positive certificate to random person without following proper procedure,” the notice undersigned by BMC deputy commissioner (COVID) stated.

“You are therefore called upon to show cause within three days (72 Hours) of receipt of this notice why the license issued by the competent authority will not be cancelled for violating the provision of relevant statutes/License conditions and action as per Epidemic Diseases Act will not be taken against you,” it added.

The civic body clarified that in case no reply is received within the scheduled period, it will be presumed that the diagnostic centre has no explanation to offer and action as deemed proper will be taken against it.
