Sambalpur: A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla after a nurse of the institution has been administered Remdesivir injection twice by a colleague while undergoing treatment for Covid-19.

The incident created uproar in the hospital and the superintendent has assured a probe into the matter.

According to sources, Purnima Kumbhar, a nurse in VIMSAR, is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital for Covid-19. She was administered a dose of Remdesivir injection by a nurse on Tuesday morning. However, to her utter dismay she was forced to take another jab of the same injection by another nurse in the afternoon. She was administered the injection again despite her refusal.

“I didn’t understand why I was administered the second dose of Remdesivir injection which is quiet dangerous. The second nurse was not able to administer the full dose of the injection because of my resistance, otherwise I would have lost my life by now,” said Kumbhar.

Tension prevailed in the hospital following the allegation as the kin of the victim staged a protest before the hospital demanding stern action against the erring nurse. Local police rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors.

Superintendent of the hospital Lalmohan Nayak has ordered an investigation into the incident and promised strong action against the accused nurse.

“The allegation is being investigated. If anyone is found guilty, stern action will be taken against him/her,” said Nayak.
