Bhubaneswar: The number of daily Covid 19 cases which continued to spiral for last several days, has witnessed a slight decline in last two days in Odisha. The daily figure, which had stood at 11,807 on Saturday, has come down to 10, 635 on Sunday.

Cumulatively, the total caseload in the State mounted to 53, 4842 following today’s figure.

As many as 19 patients succumbed to the deadly virus during the period taking the death toll to 2,180.


Khordha recorded maximum three death cases out of which one was from Bhubaneswar. Kalahandi districts also reported three fatalities. 

One patient died each at Angul, Bolangir, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Sundergarh.

Of the new positive cases, 6012 have been detetced from qurantine while rest of the infections are local contacts.

As many as 7664 patients recovered in last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 439322 in the State. 

With today's figure, the active cases in the State mounted to 9,3287.

Khordha district came to the first position again with reporting maximum 1564 cases in last 24 hours. Sundergarh district remained second in the row with 943 new cases followed by Cuttack at 887. Samablpur and Angul also witnessed a rapid surge with 641 and 559 number of people testing positive for the virus respectively.

As far as the active cases are concerned Khordha, Sundergarh, Cuttack and some western Odisha districts continue to remain worst affected.

The districts which saw a rapid rise in number of cases are Kalahandi ( 469), Jharsuguda (456) and Bargarh (443).

Nabarangpur registered 336 while Puri witnessed 443 new cases and Nuapada 324. As many as 318 people tested positive for the virus in Bolangir in last 24 hours.

Similarly, 301 cases have been detected in Balasore district which was followed by Jajpur at 290, Ganjam at 266 and Nayagarh 253.

Mayurbhanj and Boudh districts posted 179 cases each during the period. Sonepur recorded 149, Dhenkanal 146, Deogarh, 137, Koraput, 127, Jagatsinghpur 140, Kendrapara 117, Gajapati 101. Bhadrak district stood at 100 while rest of the districts witnessed below 100 cases.
