Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, the last rites of a retired government employee, who died due Covid-19 at Capital Hospital in the State capital, delayed for hours due to alleged delay in the clearance of the documents.

According to sources, the body of the Covid patient lied at hospital for over 12 hours and subsequently his last rites got delayed as his son was forced to knock the doors of Capital Hospital and police station several times for clearing the documents.

“Since yesterday, my father’s body was lying at the hospital. The documentation process needs to be simplified. It will be much easier to claim the body if the documentation can be done online,” said the grief-stricken son of the deceased in a muffled voice.

“I am suffering today by running pillar to post for the clearance. Other might face the same problem in the future. But, if the COVID crisis & shortage of staff is taken into consideration, then no one can be blamed. However, these process needs to be simplified,” he added.

Refuting the allegation of negligence, Basudev Srichandan, a staff of the hospital, said “A lot of documentation is required to release the bodies of Covid patients.  No dead bodies lie in the hospital. However, the lengthier process of documentation delays the pace and these need to be simplified,”

However, reaction of the Capital Hospital authorities and police on the matter is yet to be obtained.
