  • 868 people tested positive for the virus today pushing the tally to 9,95,433

The daily count of Covid-19 cases in Odisha on Monday came down below 1000 for the second time in the last four months since the second wave hit the state in May.

Worth mentioning here that the state had reported 886 infections on August 8.

As many as 868 people tested positive for the virus today pushing the tally to 9,95,433 so far, informed the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Out of the new positives, 104 children in the age group between  0 and18 years were tested positive for Covid-19 in the State in the past 24 hours.

 

Similarly, as per the Health & Family Welfare Department, the State today reported 66 fatalities taking the death toll to 6,953.

Of the fresh cases reported today, 507 are from quarantine centres, while the rest 361 are local contact cases. Khordha district reported the highest 256 cases in the last 24 hours while Cuttack remained second in the list with 154 infections. 

Other districts which reported cases below 100 are- Balasore (52), Jajpur (45), Sambalpur (39), Mayurbhanj (28), Kendrapara (26), Angul (26), Jagatsinghpur (23),Nayagarh (21), Puri (21), Bhadrak (19), Dhenkanal (15), Bargarh (13), Sundargarh (13), Kandhamal (12), Keonjhar (10), Deogarh (6), Bolangir (8), Jharsuguda (6), Malkangiri (6), Nuapada (6), Ganjam (3), Kalahandi (2), Rayagada (2), Boudh (1) and Gajapati (1).

Nabarangpur, Koraput and Sonepur districts reported nil cases in the last 24 hours.

In terms of deaths, Sambalpur reported 12 fatalities due to Covid-19 followed by Cuttack (8) andAngul (7). Similarly, Balasore and Dhenkanalwitnessed 5 deathseach whileBargarh, Bhadrak, Jagatasinghpur and Khordha reported 4 deathseach; Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kendrapara and Sonepur districts reported two deaths each and Bolangir , Deogarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda and Nayagarh districts detected one deatheach.

The State currently has 10,187 active cases while 9,78,240patients have recovered so far, including 1,043on Sunday.
The State has so far tested over 1,70,26,394 samples for Covid-19, including 69,035 in the last 24 hours. Odisha's positivity rate stands at 1.53 per cent.
