The national sero-survey for Covid-19 which will be undertaken in three districts of Odisha to determine the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in the community will include all children above the age of 6 years.  

The survey will be carried out in 70 districts across India including three from Odisha - Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput.  

The Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar will conduct the survey in the State between June 16 and 17 and June 21 and 22 with the logistic support of the State government, informed RMRC Director Sanghamitra Pati.

“The first, second and third rounds of national sero survey have been completed and this is the fourth round of the survey. The national sero survey will be carried out by ICMR. It will be carried out in those 70 districts where it was conducted earlier. We will carry out the exercise in three districts of Odisha- Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput,” Pati said.

Speaking about the methodology of the survey, she said, “Each district has been divided into 10 clusters and samples will be collected accordingly. All the survey procedures will be the same like previous years. The only change in the fourth round is children above 6 years of age will be included.”

According to the State government’s Covid-19 dashboard, as many as 43,573 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been recorded among children in the age group of 0-14 years in the State so far.
