Bhubaneswar: Around 61 per cent beds meant for Covid patients in the State are lying vacant while just about 39 per cent are currently occupied, informed the Director, Health Services, Bijay Mohapatra.

"General bed utilisation is around 39 % while beds having oxygen and ventilator facilities are around 60 % in the case of Covid patients. Still, the number of CC, DCSP, DDS have been increased in five-six places," he said.

He said that the Centre can decide on the use of the Covid vaccines which are being administered to 18-44 age group for 45 aboove age group.

"We can't relax the norms on vaccination for 45 above age group because the Centre is providing vaccine doses for the age group only. The State government has announced free vaccination for the age group of 18-44. Arrangements are being made for the availability of the vaccines. Once we get the vaccines we will launche the mass vaccination programme," said Mohapatra.

As children are likely to be the victims of a possible third wave, the State government is preparing accordingly, he added.
