At a time when all eyes are set on the official announcement regarding lockdown and unlock measures by the Odisha government, several instances of violations of Covid guidelines in different parts of the Twin City has come as a major concern.

At least five liquor shops in Bhubaneswar were sealed on Tuesday for violating Covid-19 guidelines.

The liquor shops were sealed by a joint enforcement team of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) under North Zone, BMC official sources said.

Senior officials said that today five liquor shops including one each at Rasulgarh, Damana, Jayadev Vihar and Acharya Vihar areas were sealed for violating Covid guidelines.

It is pertinent to mention here that BMC had sealed a garment shop- Maa Tarini Bastralaya for flouting COVID guideline on Monday.

As per reports, the shop was carrying out business through backdoor. While the owner of the shop was fined Rs 75,000, a penalty of Rs 25,000 was also slapped on customers who were present at the shop yesterday.

Apart from this, a joint team of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Police reportedly conducted surprise raids in six zones of Bhubaneswar and sealed 42 shops yesterday.

Several mobile phone shops at Bapuji Nagar were sealed and fines were collected from their owners. Similarly, 18 shops dealing with automobile spare parts, auto repairing garages, tea and liquor shops located along Cuttack-Puri Road were also sealed and penalised during the raids.
