The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials sealed two bars in Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar for gambling activities and operating during weekend shutdown on Saturday night.

The Commissionerate Police also arrested as many as 13 persons including three girls for gambling in a bar.
According to reports, a team of BMC officials and Commissionerate Police raided the bars following a tip-off that liquor is being served and gambling activities are going on. 

A total of 13 persons were arrested at Pentagon bar for gambling activities and Rs 2,56,000 was seized from their possession. The bar was also seized for violating the night curfew guidelines. 

Similarly, Nasha bar at the same locality was also seized for serving liquor during the weekend shutdown.
“The bars have been sealed for violating weekend shutdown guidelines and illegal activities like gambling. We have arrested 13 persons in this connection,” said Bhubaneswar ACP Rajat Ray.

“The arrested persons are being questioned for further investigation into the incident,” said Ray.

Earlier in December, the Commissionerate Police had sealed as many as four bars for allegedly violating Covid-19 guidelines in the Capital city.

During the raid, 72 customers were fined around Rs 28,000 for infringing Covid-19 norms set by the Government of Odisha.
