"I do not see any point in attacking political parties for this. We are not concerned with the Governor`s Office... A Governor is a constitutional authority. Under constitution, he has constitutional discretions...Ultimately, it is for the Governor to exercise his constitutional discretion.
"He (Bhardwaj) has said that he has applied his mind over the last one month. If anybody is aggrieved they are fully entitled to take legal recourse. If anybody has objection, full legal recourse is available. But it is not logical to bring any politics or political party into it," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.
Asked whether Congress as a party justifies the action of the Governor as a number of political parties including those extending support to the government have also condemned the move, Singhvi merely said, "We are not in the business of supporting anybody or attacking anybody. We have said what we have to say."
The Congress spokesperson, however, criticised BJP`s decision of launching state-wide anti-Governor protests and "Raj Bhavan Chalo" on January 25, besides deciding to meet President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi on January 24 to seek the Governor`s recall.
"Protector cannot turn predator. If there is a legal issue, it can be challenged legally in a court of law. That does not mean that a political agitation should be launched in reaction and political allegations levelled," he said.
Home Minister P Chidamabaram has criticised BJP for its attack on Bhardwaj and said the Governor`s decision was in accordance with the law.
In a signed statement, he asked the Karnataka government and BJP to maintain law and order, saying the party`s move to take to the streets against the Governor`s decision is not acceptable.
Bhardwaj had yesterday sanctioned prosecution of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in alleged land scams.
The BJP had hit back at the Governor calling the decision constitutionally improper and politically motivated.
