The fuel prices remained unchanged on May 26 in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Customers are reportedly paying Rs 103.18 per litre of petrol in the capital city of Bhubaneswar today while diesel is available at Rs 94.75 a litre.

Similarly, petrol and diesel are sold at Rs 103.71 and Rs 95.25 per litre respectively in Cuttack.

As per a fuel rate chart by goodreturns, petrol is being sold the highest in Malkangiri at 109.20. In Ganjam, petrol costs Rs 104.66 and in Sambalpur at Rs 103.78. Similarly, the rate of petrol is 103.75 in Bhadrak and Rs 108.05 in Koraput.

The Centre on Saturday had announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by 8 per litre, and 6 rupees per litre on diesel to ease the burden of the common man.

The move came after the government's inflation management was criticised by opposition parties and economists. A rise in price across all items from fuel to vegetables and cooking oil pushed WPI or wholesale price inflation to a record high of 15.08 per cent in April and retail inflation to a nearly eight-year high of 7.79 per cent.

Notably, India meets 80 per cent of its oil needs through imports. Retail rates are adjusted according to the global movement in crude prices.
