Baripada: Palpable tension prevailed at Badadalima village under Tiring Police limits here in Mayurbhanj district following a series of road accidents that left three dead late on Thursday night.

A speeding truck laden with iron ore was involved in the series accidents.

The vehicle lost control over the wheels and ran over a young man and his nephew while they stood on the road near their house last night. The young boy died on the spot while his uncle was declared dead at the hospital.

Later, the same vehicle hit a biker a few metres away from the first mishap spot. The biker died on the spot as well.

Locals detained the truck and driver besides unloading the iron ore from the truck on the road. They also staged a blockade demanding compensation for the families of the deceased.

Hundreds of mineral-laden trucks stood on both sides of the road due to the obstruction causing severe traffic snarl in the area.

Till the last report came in, neither any administrative officials nor police had reached the spot to pacify the agitating locals and ensure smooth passage of the vehicular movement.

Locals alleged that rash driving of heavy vehicles on the stretch in village areas causes small and big mishaps every day, but no measures are being taken to prevent careless driving which would lessen the fatal road accidents.
