In a shocking incident, two college students drowned in the Brahmani river while bathing on Saturday.

The deceased students have been identified as Samiran Sukumar Nayak and Rajat of the Sambalpur University of Information and Technology. They were doing an internship at NIT, Rourkela.

As per reports, six students had gone to Vedvyas temple. They then went to the river to take a bath. While bathing they reportedly slipped into the deep of the river. Hearing their cries, nearby people came to their rescue. However, it was too late by then. While two bodies were fished out, a female student was rescued in critical condition. She is undergoing treatment. The conditions of the rest three students are said to be out of danger.

“It’s a shocking incident. We are going to introduce a Biometric Attendance system for our students.  The same system will be applicable for those students coming for internship. So that we can know who is out of the campus and when they have left,” said the registrar of NIT Rourkela Rohan Dhiman.
