In a bid to check pilferage and ensure proper tracking, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders will soon come with QR codes. This was announced by Union petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday.
As per official sources, around 20,000 LPG cylinders embedded with QR Code that can be read easily by a digital device have been released in the first tranche.
The QR Code will be pasted on existing cylinders and welded on new ones. When activated, it has the potential to resolve several existing issues of pilferage, tracking, tracing and better inventory management of gas cylinders, tweeted Minister Puri.
All the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders will reportedly come embedded with QR Code in the next three months while a special sticker will be added on all old LPG cylinders.
On Wednesday, Puri said that there was no anxiety that Western nations' proposed cap on Russian oil could cut shipping availability for Indian imports.
Puri, who was interacting with the media on the sidelines of a function commemorating World LPG Week, further maintained, “I have no anxiety about that. Market forces will deal with that. We will act according to the situation.”
