Dense fog continued to grip the national capital, with large-scale flight disruptions seen on Tuesday at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
As of around 9.30 am, at least 118 flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, while over 200 flights were delayed and 118 were diverted, officials said.
AAI issues advisory
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility at IGI Airport dropped to 350 metres at 9.30 am, indicating dense fog conditions. The poor weather also impacted train services, compounding travel disruptions across the national capital.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued an advisory warning of possible delays at select airports in northern India due to reduced visibility. In a post on X, the AAI urged passengers to stay in touch with airlines for the latest updates and to allow extra time for airport procedures. It also said assistance teams had been deployed at affected airports to support stranded passengers.
IndiGo, in a travel advisory issued late Monday night, cautioned that early-morning fog could suddenly reduce visibility at airports including Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Kolkata, Ranchi, Guwahati and Hindon, impacting flight operations.
Fog-related disruptions were reported on Monday as well, when 128 flights were cancelled at Delhi airport and over 200 delayed before noon. Airlines have advised passengers to closely monitor flight status as foggy conditions persist.
