This is the first such big sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) in the state and is part of a High Capacity Power Transmission Corridor-1 (HCPTC-1) for about 10,000 MW power from Independent Power Projects (IPP) coming up in the state.
The sub-station will have 6000 MW transmission capacity and the first phase would be completed in 2013, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said laying the foundation stone for the ambitious project
IPPs coming up in Angul and Dhenkanal districts by Jindal India Thermal Power Limited (JITPL), Mahanadi Abon Power Ltd, GMR Kamalanga Energy Ltd, JSPL, Bhusan Energy, CESC, Nav Bharat ventures, Nanco Babandha Power Plant and Monnet would be able to directly export power to other regions through this large sub-station, he said.
This would also enhance reliability of power supply and strengthen the transmission system of Odisha and Eastern Region (ER) and provide strong interconnection with other regions at the 765 KV level, Shinde said. This would be connected to the existing Talcher, Meramundali, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Jeypore and Rengali grids in the state. About 300 acre would be required for the sub-station in and around village Phulpada, Gindhabasya, Kansara and Gambudhara of the district.
