"Any report on equipment imported from Russia being faulty is absolutely wrong. Indian engineers have been monitoring their shift from Russia to the plant. So nowhere was any fault detected," M Kasinath Balaji, Director, Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant told PTI from Koodankulam.
He was replying to a query on a recent media report which alleged that some of the equipments were "found damaged even before their installation." Balaji, however, acknowledged that only maintenance work was being done now while major work on commissioning the plant has been put "on hold" since many contract workers have left the area due to "apprehensions" following protests against the plant.
Anti-nuclear activists demanding scrapping of the plant have been blocking the road leading to the plant since October 13. "We have not been able to go to work. We are waiting for the district administration to help us out in this," Balaji said.
