New Delhi: Piqued over the pecking order in the government, NCP ministers Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel are believed to have offered to resign from the ministry after keeping away from a Cabinet meeting in a move seen as an attempt to put pressure on the Congress leadership.

Pawar, NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister and Heavy Industries Minister Patel, kept themselves away from the Cabinet meeting in the evening and were closeted with some senior party leaders at Pawar`s residence at the same time. Pawar is said to be miffed over the denial of Number 2 status in the Cabinet after the exit of Pranab Mukherjee. After the meeting, NCP spokesman D P Tripathi strongly denied reports of resignation.
