One More From Odisha In The Top Rank: Lt Gen CP Mohanty To Be Next Vice Chief Of Indian Army
Bhubaneswar: Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty, currently serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, is likely to be elevated as the new vice chief of Army Staff on the first of February 2021, sources said.
If reports are anything to go by, Mohanty is set to become the 42nd vice chief of Indian Army and he will be the first Odia officer to be selected for the post, which is next in rank to the Chief of Army Staff in the Indian Army.

The Odia Army officer is a native of Jayabada village in Jagatsingpur. The news of his appointment has not only brought cheers among the residents of the district but the whole of Odisha.
Lt Gen Mohanty has operational experience along the borders with Pakistan and China and in active counter-insurgency operations in Assam. He has also led a multinational UN brigade in Congo.
At present, he is serving as the General Officer Commanding in-chief of Southern Command. Prior to this, he was posted as the General Officer Commanding of Uttar Bharat area.
