At a meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee in Mumbai, Chairman and DG Coast Guard Vice Admiral Anil Chopra asked security forces to "enhance the security of offshore installations through effective surveillance, stringent access control, surprise checks and dedicated look-outs."
Chopra said a number of measures have been initiated by both the Navy and Coast Guard for surveillance and security of these installations through regular deployment of ships and aircraft, a Coast Guard release said here.

Formed by the Ministry of Petroleum, Chemicals and Fertilisers in 1978, the Committee is entrusted with the task of ensure smooth and effective functioning of offshore security arrangements.

Its members are drawn from the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Intelligence Bureau along with the representatives of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, who meet quarterly to examine issues related to the safety and security of offshore assets.
