"In the name of providing security to the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament are being insulted day in and day out. It is an insult to this august House," BSP leader Dara Singh Chauhan said and demanded a thorough probe into the matter and action against those found guilty. Deputy Speaker Karia Munda, after hearing Chauhan, said he would bring the matter to the notice of Speaker Meira Kumar.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was seen talking to the agitated BSP members and senior Ministers P K Bansal and Harish Rawat urging them to return to their seats. Earlier, when the House met for the day, Left and TDP members were in the Well demanding discussion on the agrarian crisis and plight of farmers. They were also demanding universalisation of public distribution system, implementation of Swaminathan Committee recommendations on the agrarian sector and minimum support price for cotton growers.
The slogan shouting continued for sometime as the Speaker went ahead with the Question Hour. When the protests became shrill, Meira Kumar stood up and asked members to return to their seats and show some courtesy to the Chair. The Left and TDP members remained unrelenting despite repeated requests by the Speaker to return to their seats. Angered over their unruly behaviour, Kumar adjourned the House till noon.
