It’s been 30 years that an elderly couple has been selling home-cooked meals from a tiny cubicle in Delhi and was barely managing to make ends meet. The pandemic came as a hard blow to their little eatery.

Last night, the story of their struggle in the pandemic crisis went viral, moving thousands of people, including celebrities, cricketers and politicians who have pledged their support towards the suffering elders.

It all started when a video by a food blogger featuring the couple went viral in which featured 80 year old Kanta Prasad sharing the plight of him and his wife Badami Devi. In the video he said that they are not even able to sell 750 grams of rice and half a kilogram of dal in a day. When he was asked how much he has earned, he broke down and produced Rs 10 notes from a box.

The video struck the chords with many and people united again to showcase the power of social media. From YouTubers to Bollywood celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Randeep Hooda ,Suniel Shetty among many spread the word and urged people to eat at “Baba Ka Dhaba” along with his address.

This morning, not only was "Baba Ka Dhaba" was among the top trends on Twitter, but also people thronged the place in large numbers and posted pictures of the same. Media channels were covering the news about hardships in that locality and people helping the old shop owners via Google pay & other mediums.

This came as learning for many to support our local businesses and make it a consistent effort to go vocal for local.
