The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) recently released a notification for the engagement of Act Apprentices in Eastern Railway for the year 2019-20.

Candidates must apply for the positions today as the last date of application submission is March 13, 2020.

"Online Applications are invited from eligible candidates who are Indian Nationals for engagement/training as Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, as amended from time to time, in Workshops and Divisions of Eastern Railway," read the official notification.

RRC Recruitment 2020 Vacancy Detail

Candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should not have completed 24 years of age as on cutoff date for receiving application. The age as recorded in the Matriculation certificate or the Birth Certificate shall only be reckoned for the purpose.

The upper age limit is relaxable by 05 years in case of SC/ST candidates, 3 years in case of OBC-NCL candidates and 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD) candidates.

The upper age limit is relaxable by additional 10 years for ex-serviceman up to the extent of service rendered in Defence Forces plus 03 years provided they have put in a minimum of 06 months service at a stretch, except Ex-servicemen who have already joined the Govt. Service on the Civil side after availing of the Ex-servicemen status for the purpose of their engagement.

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying need to have completed 10th class examination or its equivalent (under 10+2 examination system) with minimum 50% marks, in aggregate, from recognized Board and also should possess the National Trade Certificate in the notified trade issued by NCVT/SCVT.

However, for the following Trades, the minimum educational qualification is 8th class pass from recognized School and the National Trade Certificate in the notified trade issued by NCVT/SCVT: Welder (Gas and Electric), Sheet Metal Worker, Lineman, Wireman, Carpenter and Painter (General).

Application Fee

Candidates applying under General and OBC categories will have to pay an application fee (non-refundable) of Rs100. However, SC/ST/PWBD/Women candidates have been exempted from the fee.

Recently, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said that over one lakh government job aspirants have been empanelled by the RRB in the last three years.

“During the last three years, from 2017-2018 to 2019-2020 (up to March 5), a total number of 1,47,620 candidates have been empanelled for various Group ‘C’ posts (including Level-1) by Railways through RRBs and Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs),” Goyal said.

He further said that three recruitment examinations against Centralized Employment Notifications (CEN) are in process to be conducted in the coming months.
