An 11-year-old boy who had gone missing and was subsequently found dead in a septic tank at Ratanpur village under Delanga police limits in Puri district was sexually abused before the minor was allegedly killed, Puri SP Vinit Agrawal said on Tuesday in a presser.

According to sources, the incident was earlier reported from the district, where the victim was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Initial investigations have revealed that the child was sexually assaulted prior to being murdered. The case has been officially registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused attempted to obscure the crime by disposing of the victim’s body in the septic tank following the murder.
Briefing by Puri SP Vinit Agrawal
“Multiple teams were formed, and we had advanced the investigation from different angles. Based on the findings, we ascertained that Prabhakar Sahu alias Bapi is the accused in the crime. On the intervening day, Prabhakar had called the victim and asked him to expose his private parts on the promise of giving him some money,” the Puri SP said.
“Later, the accused had indulged in a ‘homosexual’ act with the victim boy for some time, and after the act was over, the minor had demanded money as promised by the accused. In the meantime, a relative of the victim searched for him. After listening to the relative’s loud voice, the boy warned the accused of revealing the whole incident to his family. Scared by this, the accused smothered the boy and threw him in the tank,” the SP expressed.

“Whether the boy was first killed and then thrown into the septic tank or he died after being thrown can be ascertained only after a post-mortem report comes in,” the SP added.
