A man and his wife from Jabagada village, who had gone missing since Saturday evening as the boat carrying them capsized at Jalaput reservoir in Koraput district, were found dead today.
According to sources, the young couple identified as Krushna Padiki and his spouse Pratima Padiki were returning home from their farmland and were crossing the reservoir when their boat overturned, leading to their disappearance.

A joint team of police from Machhkund station and fire services personnel from Nandapur were deployed at the spot to conduct search and rescue operations. Despite their efforts, there was no trace of the missing couple.
Meanwhile, following a frantic search launched today morning, the bodies of the couple were fished out from the reservoir water.
“I saw the boat when it was approaching the shore. As there were tides and water was falling on my face, I opened my umbrella for protection. Just after two to three minutes when I looked for the boat, it had disappeared,” an eyewitness Raut Musagadia stated.

“Krushna Padiki is survived by his two minor children. I request the State government to extend financial assistance to his bereaved family,” local sarpanch Rajkishore Lenduru said.
Back in their village, their children are in deep grief after the news of their death spread.
The incident has also cast a pall of gloom over Jabagada village, with the local community mourning the couple's untimely death.
