Team India debutant pacer Anshul Kamboj had a forgettable outing against England in the fourth Test in Manchester. However, former India great Kapil Dev has backed Kamboj to perform well in future.
The former India captain defended Kamboj by saying that no one should expect a player to take 10 wickets on debut and expressed belief that Kamboj would recover and perform better in future matches.
"What can you expect from a debutant, that he should take 10 wickets? You need to evaluate his potential. If he’s good enough, he will come back stronger. Everyone feels nervous in their first match. The outcome might not be perfect, but what truly matters is the potential, and I’m sure it’s there," said Kapil.
"Give him time. This is his first series, and he will make mistakes, but over time, there will be many positives, and he will learn. It’s not an issue if he’s learning. Mistakes will happen, but what’s important is that he learns from them," he added.
Notably, Kamboj was called up to the Indian squad as a replacement for Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep, who were both unavailable due to injuries.
