A Punjabi winter speciality, Matar Paneer is loved by all. Delectable paneer cubes simmered in tomato-rich gravy with seasonal green peas make for an incredible weeknight dinner. Here is an easy recipe to make this winter specialty at your home:
Ingredient required
- 200 gm paneer cubes
- Oil for frying
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 bayleaf (optional )
- 2-3 cloves and 1 cardamom (optional)
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 fresh green chilli, chopped
- 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 11/2 tsp degi red chilli powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1½ cups fresh tomato puree
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup green peas
- Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
How to make
- Cut the paneer into cubes and fry them until golden brown.
- Once golden brown, remove and put it in a bowl of water and let them cool down and keep aside for further use.
- In a kadai heat ghee and add cloves, cumin seeds let them crackle then add onion and saute until translucent.
- Now add green chilli, ginger-garlic paste, and sauté for a minute.
- Then add turmeric powder, degi red chilli powder, coriander powder and saute until the onions are properly cooked and spices are fragrant.
- At this time add the fresh tomato puree, salt and sauté it until it's cooked or the ghee starts coming from sides.
- Then add the green peas, fried paneer without water and sauté it for 1-2 minutes.
- Now add some water and boil it for 5-6 minutes until a semi thick gravy.
- Switch off the flames and serve hot in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves and Matar paneer is ready serve.
