The excitement around Maddock Films’ Horror Comedy Universe continues to soar with the recent release of Thamma. The fifth chapter in the beloved franchise hit theatres on October 21, bringing together Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in a quirky vampire romance. While Nawazuddin Siddiqui impressed audiences yet again, it was the film’s post-credit surprise- the official reveal of Shakti Shalini- that truly stole the spotlight.

Aneet Padda’s Casting Creates a Stir Online
The announcement of Aneet stepping into the Shakti Shalini universe sent social media into a frenzy. Fans flooded the internet with congratulatory messages, while others were curious about how the newcomer landed such a major project in Maddock’s hit horror-comedy series.
Recently, filmmaker Amar Kaushik has now opened up on why she was chosen for the lead role. He also shared a major update on the film.
Amar Kaushik Explains the Casting Decision
During a recent candid conversation with Bollywood Hungama, director Amar Kaushik explained the team’s decision to bring Aneet on board. Kaushik said, “When we were writing the script, we realized that we needed a younger actor. Meanwhile, we saw her film Saiyaara and realized that she suits the part perfectly for that character. She heard the story and came on board.”
Kaushik, who has previously helmed Stree and Stree 2 (2024), also shared an exciting update about the film’s schedule.
“The shooting will commence in January 2026,” he said.
A Major Break in Aneet Padda’s Rising Career
For Aneet, Shakti Shalini is more than just another role- it’s a defining milestone in her journey as a Bollywood actor. Landing a lead role in one of India’s most successful cinematic universes places her among the industry’s promising new faces to watch.
Interestingly, before Saiyaara marked the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, reports suggested that Kiara Advani was the frontrunner for Shakti Shalini. However, the buzz shifted dramatically in recent weeks, hinting that Aneet had replaced Kiara in the project.
What’s Next in Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe?
When asked about future plans for the franchise, Kaushik offered a thoughtful perspective.
“There might be just one film (from the universe in 2026). We feel that there should not be an overdose and we should not give too many films in a short period. Hence, as of now, the plan is to only bring Shakti Shalini next year,” added Kaushik.
